Wharekaho Beach (Simpsons Beach)

This beautiful Bay is encompassed by Mt Maungatawhiri to the north and  Wharekaho headland to the south which is the site of  historic Wharetaewa Pa visited by Captain Cook in 1769 and later attacked by northern tribes armed with muskets and all but a few of the inhabitants were slaughtered.

The Simpson family were early european settlers and are still living and  farming  here. Many motorhome owners will have taken the opportunity to spend time camped in the padddock in front of Peter and Margaret Simpsons home at the northern end of the beach
