Autumn

The colours we experience now throughout the countryside as the trees don their autumn coats would not have been present in pre European times because there are very few native deciduous trees. Of the native deciduous trees the best known are the Kowhai and the Kotukutuku which is the largest Fuchsia in the world forming a tree to 13 metres While we generally curse the fallen leaves as they clog gutters and deposit a thick mat on the ground they do provide some very colourfully arranged patterns.
