Gazetted in 1993 Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve (Cathedral Cove) was the first reserve established on the Coromandel Peninsula, and in the Department of Conservation’s Waikato Conservancy. Read more…

Wharekaho Beach (Simpsons Beach)

This beautiful Bay is encompassed by Mt Maungatawhiri to the north and  Wharekaho headland to the south which is the site of  historic Wharetaewa Pa visited by Captain Cook in 1769 and later attacked by northern tribes armed with muskets and all but a few of the inhabitants were slaughtered.
